Forming Future Priests

Do you wish to become a formator or acquire the Sulpician charism? We have a path to offer you, on which we wish to accompany you.

What are the requirements to join our community?

The Company of the Priests of Saint-Sulpice is a Company composed of diocesan priests. Our primary charism is the formation of formators.

Criteria to become a Sulpician:

Be an ordained priest

Belonging to a diocese

Have the bishop's permission

Have 3 years of experience as a priest

Have a recommendation from your place of ministry

Steps to Become a Sulpician Priest

Accompaniment

At this stage, a Sulpician Father makes the initial contact and accompanies the aspirant to provide initial formation to enlighten the aspirant about the Sulpician charism. This is a stage of discernment.

Dialogue with the Bishop

This is the final part of the discernment. At this stage, the aspirant must discuss with his bishop his desire to become a Sulpician. It is necessary for the bishop to grant his authorization to the aspirant.

Live the Experience

The aspirant must make an explicit request to the Provincial Superior of the Company to live the experience as a formator in one of the seminary teams. This stage lasts a minimum of 2 years.

Formation Period

The aspirant proceeds to a stage of formation in spirituality and pedagogy. This period is called “Solitude” and lasts 8 months. Additionally, the candidate undertakes specialized studies at the master’s or doctoral level.

If three apostolic men were found within a seminary, filled with humility, gentleness, patience and zeal, charity, poverty, with the knowledge and wisdom necessary for this divine employment, they would suffice for the sanctification of an entire diocese, (…) they would sanctify an entire world and would not only suffice for the seminary of one diocese but of an entire kingdom. Such is the virtue of the apostolic and disinterested spirit.
